Call for Tutorial Proposals

The IJCB 2024 Organizing Committee invites proposals for tutorials to be given on September 14, 2024, immediately preceding the main conference, at the same venue, Buffalo, New York. Tutorials can be for either half- or full day. A half-day tutorial could be 2-3 hours long and a full-day tutorial can be 5-6 hours long.

Any area of biometrics can be the subject of a tutorial, and possible areas of interest include (but are not limited to):

  • Recent advances in biometric sensor design and data collection;
  • Approaches for trustworthy biometrics (e.g., related topics in bias and fairness, privacy and security, robustness, explainability, transparency, etc.);
  • Biometric recognition aided with generative models;
  • Developments of multimodal or multispectral biometrics;
  • Human identification at a distance in less cooperative environments;
  • Open-set liveness detection, anti-spoofing in the wild;
  • Efficient biometric algorithms for light architectures (e.g. match-on-card/board, mobile platforms, etc.);
  • Ethical implications of Biometric-related AI regulations
  • Biometric applications in Metaverse.

We also welcome proposals on topics related to AI including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Generative AI (Diffusion models, Generative Adversarial Networks and others) and its applications;
  • Responsible AI (Trust, Privacy and Security);
  • Multimodal Learning using Large Foundation Models;
  • Systematic Evaluation of Synthetically Generated Data;
  • Efficient LLMs and VLMs;
  • Foundational Machine Learning Concepts in Novel Applications.

Submission Instructions:

Proposals should be in PDF format of at most 3 pages (excluding biographies) and should contain the following information:

  1. Proposed Title;
  2. Proposers’ names, titles, affiliations, emails, and brief bio sketches;
  3. Preference for half- or full-day event (the latter requires a brief justification);
  4. Abstract;
  5. Expected target audience, in terms of both composition and estimated number of attendees;
  6. Prerequisites for the participants (if any);
  7. List of topics to be presented with their estimated duration and pointers/references to the associated literature;
  8. Description of and/or links to any planned materials or resources to be distributed to attendees;
  9. A short biography of the tutor(s) with relevant experience on the tutorial topic;
  10. List on any similar tutorial(s) presented in the past by the author(s) on the same or closely related topic.
